November 2017:  Christmas in Alsace

After only one afternoon and night in Strasbourg in May, we're coming back for a long weekend with Mom & Dad!

Unterkunft:  Rosys Appartment at 16 Rue de Bucarest and around the corner from the Aristide Briand tram stop.  Tram line D goes every 12 mins and has direct 18 min connection to Hauptbahnhof.

Essen:

  • La Gourmande bakery is just around the corner from our apt :) at 26 Ave. Aristide Briand.
  • Francie recommends Au Petit Bois Vert at 2 Quai de la Bruche.  Mom will love the honey & goat cheese Tarte Flambée!
  • Binchstub:  100% Alsace means Flammkuchen and fresh, regional ingredients.  Boglie address is 28 impasse de l'Ecrevisse on Place Broglie; can take D tram to Homme de Fer.
  • Coffee Stub:  Saturday brunch 10-14!  12 Quai de Pêcheurs - take Tram D to Porte de l'Hôpital then walk east along the water for ~10 mins.
  • Pâtisserie Litzler Vogel:  family-owned sweetshop near the Porte de l'Hôpital tram stop on 9 Rue d'Austerlitz.
  • Troquet des Kneckes:  Hipster hangout with cheap Tartes Flambées and Brasserie Uberach bier.  112 Grand Rue - close to D Tram stop Langstross/Grand'Rue.
  • Christian Pâtisserie, Salon de Thé & Restaurant: 10 Rue Mercière - by Cathédrale Notre Dame, go fur ice cream & chocolates.
  • l'Épicerie:  little café/bistro for lunch or light dinner with Tartines and homemade sweets.
  • Cap'tain Flam:  Tarte Flambée in roll-up wrap form for a quick, cheap, and yummy lunch or snack.  9B Rue des Frères by the Cathédral.
  • Oh my Goodness Café:  coffee, espresso, breakfast, snack, apertif.  Right by the Porte de l'Hôpital stop on Tram D line.
  • Café Brasserie Le Michel:  fresh croissants baked daily at 6am!  Lively bar scene & local hangout.  20 Ave de la Marseillaise - between Place de la République et Place de l'Université.
  • Habibi Strasbourg:  middle eastern food about 15 mins walk from our apt between the Parc de la Citadelle et l'Université at 8 Rue de Leicester.

Museums:

  • Musée historique de la ville de Strasbourg: 2 Rue du Vieux Marché aux Poissons, open 10-18, nearest tramstop is Porte de l'Hôpital.
  • Museum Tomi Ungerer:  illustration and graphic design, 2 Avenue de la Marseillaise near Place de la République, open 10-18.  From our apt, can take tram to Langstross/Grand Rue and walk.
  • Chocolate Museum:  just outside the city, can take TER train 8 mins, then 28 mins walk or 40 mins tram ride and 16 mins walk.
  • Elsässisches Musée:  23-25 Quai Saint Nicolas, open 10-18, nearest tramstop is Porte de l'Hôpital.

Getting around:

  • CTS Ticket Options: 24H Trio for €6,80 oder Daily Group Ticket for same price am Sa. & So.

Do. 25: Zug von Munich (11:28) nach Strasbourg (16:00); WS Uebernachtung mit Larry.

Fr. 26: Zug von Strasbourg (9:55) nach Épinal (13:15); American cemetery open from 9 to 5.  385 rue de la Rondenolle, 88000 Dinozé.  WS Uebernachtung mit Stéphanie.

Sa. 27: Radfahren von Épinal nach Alain et Sophie, ~68 km et 1,278 höhen meters.

So. 28: von Alain via Colmar et Breisach nach Freiburg ~70 km et all downhill!  Each leg is ~25 km et 1 h.
